Our Boot Camps Defined
We created the Speech Fitness Boot Camps to help people in career transitions achieve their goals-from GenY/Millennials to Small Business Owners and Corporate Groups to “Re-imaginers”. Our certified coaches are some of the best in the country. The program includes:

Dear mary,
Communication is the heart of our bond with others-family, friends, colleagues and community. It’s our gift to the world. Sometimes we know exactly what to say in a given moment. Sometimes we hold our thoughts and emotions in silence because we don’t know how to frame them in mere words.
By being silent, we diminish our ability to make a difference with the power of our words. Everyone’s words are worth hearing. A kind word can turn a day around for someone, and a thoughtful criticism can help another grow, even though we may never know the effects we’ve had. We can be the source of inspiration and motivation for others, just as they are for us. Imagine not being able to turn to the words of sages like T.S. Elliot.
With Elliot’s quote (above) in mind, make this year the time to speak your unique voice. Find the right words to fully communicate your creative ideas; describe a product or service; or convey the value of your business.
Make this your year to shine by going public: Speak to the media. Create a “stump speech.” Build a better organization. Become more savvy about your personal brand. GET that new job. Get some coaching around life’s challenges. Don’t put this year’s words off until next year.

| Late Summer Blooms in the Institute Garden |
Dear mary,
…hmmm….as usual, I’m humming a (Summer) tune in the Garden at the Institute.
I love this classic –”Summertime“, from Porgy and Bess which is surely well known to you and has been recorded by just about everyone. What’s your favorite rendition?
And after planting my purple Dahlia bulb last year resulting in no blooms, I have nurtured, fed and fertilized–I am thrilled to say…”success”!

Summertime and the livin’ is easy–Labor Day Holiday is a great time to slow down and offer yourself a little mind, body, soul-filled recharge.
So many of you have told me about the fun family vacations you have taken this past month. I am having vicarious exhales and enjoy all of your Facebook posts with family and friends. Your kids are getting so big!!
While things are a little slower and everyone’s heading to the beach before we have to get ‘back to school’, why not take time to plan some self-improvement when Fall kicks back into gear. It will come all too soon.

Projects are the New Job Interview
People are becoming more careful about their financial investments, just as companies are becoming more careful about whom they hire. And, as with investing, interviewing has become more demanding.
Companies are increasingly asking prospective employees to perform project work as part of the interviewing process. From reviewing a document or project, to submitting thoughts on a potential new strategy, candidates are being asked to “audition”- to execute a wide array of tasks over the “getting to know you” phase.
Whether you agree with this new methodology or not, it is becoming increasingly popular. It will require an ability to “sniff out” which projects are genuine invitations vs. the ones used to “abuse”.
It is important to learn and develop the skills necessary to complete the project efficiently, work into the ‘new team’ and compete with other candidates successfully. It is also essential to present yourself as a stand-out in day-to-day exchanges, as well as in the final interview.
However, just as it gives the company additional time and insight into their ‘new employee’, it also gives you a more in-depth view of this employer. Which means that you have to cultivate tools to investigate the company and understand its culture; never mind the additional care needed to be able to pass the social media scrutiny many companies perform these days.
This new interviewing “process” has definitely made the path of employment much more daunting to many. As the article says, it is important for interviewees to learn to, “optimize their influence and impact within the constraints of the project design.“
Networking is a key to successful employment. 70% of all jobs come from referrals. We do our best to network our Boot-Campers with our roster of amazing organizations. So far, we are proud to say, with a 100% success rate.
